Growing up in WV I like many love to get into the woods and hunt.  As many other hunters have done on occasion, I’ve missed a shot before.  I was in the position to succeed, everything was perfect and then the end result didn’t mirror to my expectations.  Life is all about our misses and how we handle those.

Being a coach I often have the tough task of having to cut and or change playing times and participation.  Have I missed on some of my thinking, absolutely.  Have I also lost sleep worrying more about someone else’s kid than my own, 100 percent.   Have I seen someone work harder to show I “missed” in my thinking, you better believe it.

Each of each carry the opportunity to be our best everyday we however are going to have days we miss being our best.  You’re going to miss that shot, you’re going to fumble or drop a ball, you’re going fail on a test.  How do you respond?  Coaches and Bosses know you’re going to fail, they want to see your response and how you move forward to eliminate it from happening again.

One of the hardest things to do in life is lingering or not getting over a miss. How can you move forward if you can’t let it go?  A great quote comes to mind from Wayne Gretzky, “You miss one hundred percent of the shots you don’t take,”   You still have to believe in yourself and be ready to take that next shot.

Michael Jordan is the best basketball player I’ve ever watched as well as being one of,  if not the most competitive athletes of all time. He has a famous quote, “I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career.  I’ve lost almost 300 game.  26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed.  I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life.  And that is why I succeed.”

Know that success can still follow after a miss.  Know that someone is watching and cheering for you always.  Know and believe that next shot is going to be successful.

Enjoy your Day!
