I hear the phrase, It’s okay, I don’t have to impress anyone. Many get to that point and feeling once they reach a certain level. That can be in a relationship, in their career and so on. I disagree wholeheartedly with that phrase.
You only get one chance to make a first impression. You may have someone who all they want to do is meet or talk with you. If you don’t take pride in being you or take for granted each and every interaction then you have the chance to negatively impact others.
Going to quote Eminem here, If you had one shot or one opportunity to seize everything you ever wanted in one moment would you capture it or just let it slip? You never know what an interaction is going to do for another. You may meet someone who has the chance to change your life. Never downgrade yourself.
Bruce Lee said, Don’t speak negatively about yourself, even as a joke. Your body doesn’t know the difference. Words are energy and they cast spells, that’s why its called spelling. Change the way you speak about yourself, and you can change your life.
Be comfortable being you! No one is going to do it better than you. Take pride in you, your looks, your smell all aspects of you. Greet others with a smile, a handshake or even a hug. That interaction no matter how small to you can move a mountain for another.
One of the most impressive things you can do for another is be present. Be engaged! Remember you can only meet someone for the first time once, make that other person remember you for something positive. Give others your love and respect.
I had to make the tough decision to step away from coaching youth sports after many years. I tried from day one to leave a mark. I have pushed my guys after each game / tournament, to shake the opposing teams, coaches and umpires hands. Throughout the season I was told over and over again, your team is the one we will remember. The respect from the coaches and players stood out.
Take pride in what you see in the mirror! Make it a point to make someone’s day today. Sometimes its as simple as a greeting. Leave each place you contact better than you found it.
I’ll close with a quote from the Truman Show. Good Morning, and in case I don’t see, good afternoon, good evening and good night!
